Measuring and improving deep sleep in people with Parkinson’s
A PhD student at Northumbria University is working in partnership with SOMNOmedics AG, a medical technology company. They are exploring whether sound can improve deep sleep for people with Parkinson’s.
• 10 people with Parkinson’s who:
• are aged 55 or over
• don't experience balance issues
Unfortunately, those diagnosed with a sleep disorder, Parkinson’s dementia or who take medication which may affect sleep are unable to take part.
Visiting Northumbria University to receive a copy of the study schedule and the equipment needed to measure sleep at home, including:
• 4 electrodes to be placed on the forehead and face to measure brain activity while asleep
• a wrist activity watch to record the sleep-to-wake cycle
• You will keep the equipment for 15 days
• You will be asked to wear the watch and complete a sleep diary every day
• For 3 nights, you will be asked to wear the electrodes and complete tasks on a laptop in the evening and morning
You will be invited to an optional interview with the researchers after taking part. This can be online, over the phone or in person.
Participants will be reimbursed £100 for taking part and to cover travel expenses.
For more information, please read the participant information sheet.
