Take part in research

60 people with Parkinson’s, who:

• live within NHS Grampian in Scotland. 

• experience freezing when walking and can walk further than 100m with or without a walking aid

• have been taking a stable dose of Parkinson's medication for 3 weeks before starting the research

• and have access to a laptop or tablet

8 to 12 people with Parkinson’s from a  South Asian background, who have lived in the UK for at least 5 years before diagnosis. 

20 health and care professionals who:

• regularly support or work with people with Parkinson’s

• and live in the UK

80 people with Parkinson’s 

300 people with Parkinson’s who live in the UK. 

The researchers are looking to speak to people who have already had DBS, people who are considering it, and people who haven't thought about DBS before or have been told they're not eligible.

50 people without Parkinson’s who are 50 to 80 years old who have:

• a diagnosis of postural hypotension or pure autonomic failure 

• or experience frequent episodes of dizziness after standing up which end after sitting

• or take medicine for low blood pressure such as midodrine or fludrocortisone.

And have access to a laptop or computer.

• 28 people with Parkinson’s

• 23 people who support a person with Parkinson’s

• 5 bereaved supporters of a person with Parkinson’s

• 24 healthcare professionals working in the NHS who currently diagnose or discuss advanced care planning with people with Parkinson’s

138 people with Parkinson’s.

Unfortunately, those diagnosed with dementia or a mental health condition other than depression or anxiety are unable to take part.

1000 people with Parkinson’s 

17,000 people without Parkinson's aged between 50 and 80

30 people with Parkinson’s and their supporters who have access to a smartphone or tablet, and an internet connection.

People with Parkinson’s who don’t have a care partner are also eligible to take part.

Unfortunately, those diagnosed with dementia or who are living in a care facility are unable to take part.

12 people with Parkinson’s in the UK who:

• have received 4 or more sessions of mental health support in the last 5 years through a non-Parkinson’s specialist, such as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

•  accessed this mental health support after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s for at least 1 year

Unfortunately, those who are receiving ongoing mental health support are unable to take part. 

People with Parkinson's, Parkinson’s with Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia living in Scotland

•  25 unpaid carers or supporters of people with Parkinson’s 

320 people with Parkinson’s.

Unfortunately, those diagnosed with any other neurological conditions such as dementia or severe mental health issues such as depression are unable to take part.

350 people with Parkinson’s 

• who are taking Parkinson’s medication

• have recently attended a hospital visit or have a visit planned in the near future

People with Parkinson's who live in the UK and are aged between 18 to 90 years old.
