Tracking eye movements to identify people with Parkinson’s

Researchers from Northumbria University want to test whether tracking small eye movements could be used to identify people with Parkinson’s. 
 

Who

•  40 people with Parkinson’s, and
•  40 people without Parkinson’s 
•  with no significant eye conditions 

Unfortunately people with other neurological conditions such as dementia are unable to take part.

What

Attending an assessment at Northumbria University which will take 2 hours
•  You will be asked to complete problem solving, visual and movement tests 
•  Your eye movements, balance and walking will also be measured 
•  Participants can request a taxi for travel to and from the research site 
 

For people with Parkinson’s only:
•  An optional home visit from a researcher which will take 1 hour
•  You will be asked to not take your Parkinson’s medication overnight or 12 hours before your usual morning dose
•  In the morning you will be asked to complete movement and memory tests, followed by the eye movement test. The eye movement test will be repeated one hour after you have taken your Parkinson’s medication
