Online peer support for people with long-term conditions

Researchers at King's College London are testing a new peer support website, called CommonGround. The website aims to allow people living with long-term physical health conditions, to share knowledge, support, and manage their mental wellbeing.

They want to find out what people with Parkinson’s think about the website, including what they like and dislike.

Who

•  150 adults with long-term physical health conditions, including Parkinson’s

•  Unfortunately, people who have been diagnosed with dementia or a severe mental illness (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, and/or psychosis) are unable to take part

What

•  Two online eligibility screenings to make sure that you can take part

•  Participants will be asked to fill out digital questionnaires at the beginning, middle, and end of the research

•  These will take 60, 15 and 60 minutes to complete respectively

•  Some people will have access to the new peer support website for three months, and some people will be signposted to online NHS mental health resources for three months (the control group)

•  Those using CommonGround can create their own anonymous profile, ask questions, and share your experiences with other users

•  Some participants will also be invited to do a 60 minute one-to-one virtual interview about their experiences and opinions of the website

•  Participants will be reimbursed with £10 shopping vouchers after completing the first and final questionnaires

For more information please go to the study website or read the participant information sheet.
