The Frank and Evelyn Brake Connect Fund

We’re delighted to announce the next phase of the Frank and Evelyn Brake Connect Fund. A pound-for-pound matched fund created generously by the Frank Brake Charitable Trust.

In 2020 The Frank Brake Charitable Trust created a £600,000 matched fund to transform our information and support services and drive forward our vision of being there from day 1 for the Parkinson’s community. They released the first funding pot of £200,000 in October, promising to match all donations made into the fund pound-for-pound.

We’re pleased to share that the first funding pot was a great success. The total £400,000 raised helped us to deliver our vital work directly supporting our Parkinson's Connect programme, and the immediate and pressing needs of the Parkinson's community in 2020.

Transforming information and support

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. In the UK alone, 18,000 people are diagnosed every year. It's vital that our services grow to support the increasing number of people diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Parkinson’s UK currently supports around 50,000 people every year through our information and support services. But this is less than 20% of people affected by Parkinson’s. Our aim is to be there for at least 80% of people affected by the condition.

Through Parkinson's Connect, we’re designing a new approach that’s radically reinventing how our Parkinson's support services are delivered and can reach everyone in need.

The Connect Fund is helping deliver this innovative and pioneering project. We’re using new technologies and insights from the Parkinson’s community to make sure people get the right information and support, at the right time and in the right place.

For the first time, the NHS will be able to refer people to Parkinson’s UK when they’re diagnosed, so they can get personalised information and support from day 1. And we’ll have specific information and support for family, friends and carers too.

Our vision is to be there for everyone, in the way that’s right for them, from diagnosis to the end of life.

Your support will have double the impact

Frank and Evelyn Brake, and their family, have been long term friends, supporters and champions of Parkinson’s UK. Over the years, their support has made many aspects of our work possible.

This year the Connect Fund will be releasing a further £400,000 to be matched pound-for-pound. With your support this vital funding will make sure we can roll out our transformed service from late 2021.
