Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA)

The MoCA (Nasreddine et al. 2005) is a brief cognitive screening tool for Mild Cognitive Impairment.  It is intended for use by health professionals only.

The brief 10 minute, 30 point tool assesses different cognitive domains: attention and concentration, executive functions, memory, language, visuoconstructional skills, conceptual thinking, calculations, and orientation.

The MOCA is available for use without permission by health professionals for clinical and education use. Permission is required for use in research or commercial ventures. 

The author recommendeds that training and certification (fee applies) is achieved before using the tool. This MoCA news story (June 2019) outlines changes in training, certification and access which apply from 1 September 2020.

The MoCA is available in 46 languages and dialects.
