Celebrating Allied Health Professionals Day 14th October 2022

We are celebrating National Allied Health Professionals Day today to celebrate all the amazing work they do across the NHS to provide support for people with Parkinson’s.

People with Parkinson’s need access to a wide variety of different specialisms and skills to best meet their needs. This is where allied health professionals (AHPs) each add their unique and individual contributions. They bring additional skills to contribute to the care of people with Parkinson’s, working closely with other members of the clinical team,  such as doctors and nurses.

The Parkinson’s Excellence Network aims to drive forward improvements to health and care services for people with Parkinson’s and integrated multidisciplinary care is one of our national priorities. You can find out more about our Excellence Network National Priority Programmes, including multidisciplinary care, here.

We have a vision for integrated multidisciplinary care. We want all people with Parkinson’s to have timely access to best practice, person centred integrated multidisciplinary care, wherever they live in the UK. We are accelerating progress towards this through our partnership with the Flow Coaching Academy. We also want to improve understanding of best practice multidisciplinary care among people with Parkinson’s, their carer partners and relatives.

Collaborating across a multidisciplinary team

Fiona Lindop, Specialist Physiotherapist at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust explains her role and how she works with colleagues across the local multidisciplinary team. She explains how this is a vital element of providing excellent care for people with Parkinson’s.

We want to wish all our AHPs a happy #AHPsDay and take this opportunity to say a big thank you to each and every one of our allied health professionals.

It has been a challenging few years but there is so much to be proud of and celebrate. Let’s continue the great work and spread best practice around multidisciplinary care to achieve even more for people with Parkinson’s.
