Test out the latest Parkinson's tech
Join the Tech Guide reviewer pool and get your hands on Parkinson's tech for free
It seems like another piece of Parkinson’s technology is launched every week: an app to monitor your symptoms, or a device that claims to help you walk, speak or sleep better.
But how do you know which ones actually work?
This is where the Parkinson’s UK Tech Guide comes in. The team sends out a piece of Parkinson’s technology to a group of people with Parkinson’s.
After testing it for several weeks, everyone's feedback, good and bad, is combined into an in-depth review. This expert testing can be a huge help to people weighing up whether to buy something for themselves.
Could you join the reviewer pool?
The Tech Guide currently has a pool of over 100 testers around the UK and is on a mission to recruit even more. Parkinson’s looks different for everyone, so it’s important that each device or app is tested by people with different symptoms.
And you don’t have to be an experienced user of technology - we want to see how easy each app or device is for beginners too.
Tony Jeffreys is 64 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016. He joined the reviewer pool in 2024 and has contributed to two reviews so far:
“I’ve been a tech geek for much of my life. As a school boy, I was given an electronics kit as a Christmas present, and I went on to work for many years in the smart card software industry. You never know, you might have a credit or debit card that’s running my software!
“So I’ve been searching for devices and gadgets that could help me as my Parkinson’s symptoms evolve.
I was delighted to be offered the chance to learn about what’s on the market and help others by reviewing new tech.
“Typing on my smartphone is becoming more and more difficult. With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming more and more powerful, I’d like to think that a smart keyboard that can cope with my ever-increasing random keystrokes will be available before too long.
“I send my feedback to the team by email, which works well for me, but you can also do it by post.”
Three reasons to join the reviewer pool
- You might find something that helps you live better.
- Keep the products you’ve tested, for free.
- Help others make the right decision for themselves.
Here’s how it works
We choose a selection of people with relevant symptoms or experience from the reviewer pool, and ask if they want to try out a new app or device.
If you do, we’ll send you the device or a link to download the app. This will always be free.
You test it out for at least 4 weeks, to see whether it’s easy to use, effective at what it claims to do, and good value for money.
At the end of the review, send your completed feedback form back to us. We combine the feedback from all reviewers to create one comprehensive review article that we share on the Tech Guide, online and in print.
