Using an app to manage non-motor symptoms
Researchers at Newcastle University have developed a phone application to help people with Parkinson’s manage non-motor symptoms, such as sleep problems and low mood. The app aims to help monitor these symptoms and offer advice for managing them.
30 people with Parkinson’s and their supporters who have access to a smartphone or tablet, and an internet connection.
People with Parkinson’s who don’t have a care partner are also eligible to take part.
Unfortunately, those diagnosed with dementia or who are living in a care facility are unable to take part.
Downloading the app onto your phone or tablet and using it for 6 months:
• You can use the app as much or as little as you find helpful
• You'll be asked to complete 3, 15 minute surveys each month about managing your symptoms
After 3 and 6 months of using the app, you’ll be asked to:
• Meet with the researchers online or over the phone for 45 minutes
• Complete 3 surveys, which will take up to 40 minutes
Some participants will be invited for 45 minute one to one interviews, online or over the phone, about their experiences using the app.
