Understanding brain changes in people with Parkinson’s

Researchers at University College London want to measure the proteins that build up in the brains of people with Parkinson’s. This knowledge could help develop more accurate and targeted treatments for people with Parkinson’s in the future.

Who

100 people with Parkinson’s

•  between 50 and 80 years old

•  who have had Parkinson’s for less than 10 years

•  and are able to have an MRI scan

What

Attending up to 5 visits to the research centre in London.

The visits will include various assessments including: positron emission tomography (PET) scans used to produce detailed three-dimensional images of the brain, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to produce detailed images of the brain, a magnetoencephalography (MEG) scan to measure brain activity, blood tests and an optional lumbar puncture.

You will be invited back for follow-up visits after 18 months and 3 years.

For more information, please read the participant information sheet.
