Testing a home-based exercise programme

A PhD researcher at the University of Kent is exploring if a home-based exercise programme could be beneficial for people with Parkinson’s. They want to find out if the programme improves movement and wellbeing. 

Who

18 people with Parkinson’s 

• who are aged 40 or over

• are able to walk 10m without assistance

• and have been taking a stable dose of Parkinson's medication for 1 month before starting the research

Unfortunately, those diagnosed with any other neurological conditions, such as dementia, are unable to take part.

What

A 30 minute online screening call with the researcher.

Taking part in 45 minute home-based exercises, 3 times a week for 12 weeks.

Attending 4 visits at the University of Kent during these 12 weeks:

• At these visits, you will complete surveys and physical assessments 

• The assessments will involve wearing small sticky markers on your skin and clothing to capture movement

• Visits will take up to 2 hours

After 24 weeks, you will be invited to a final 2 hour study visit to complete surveys and physical assessments.
 
You will be reimbursed £25 for taking part and to cover travel expenses.
