Depression and anxiety are two of the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's.
The brief and simple 14 question Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale can be used by health and social care providers to assess levels of depression and anxiety in people with Parkinson's.
Originally developed for use in hospitals, the HADS scale can also be used in general practice settings (Snaith & Zigmond 1983).
Permission to use HADS materials in the UK must be obtained from the copyright holder, GK Assessments, and a fee applies for all users. Further information on the tool and fees can be found on the GK Assessments website.
It is advisable for individual services already using a PDF of the tool to contact GK Assessments to find out if a fee applies for continuation of use.
