Understanding movement patterns in people with Parkinson’s
A PhD researcher at the University of Kent wants to understand the differences in movement between people with Parkinson’s who experience freezing while walking, and those who do not experience this symptom.
Freezing is often described as feeling like your feet are ‘glued’ to the ground, making it difficult to step forward.
12 people with Parkinson’s
• who are aged 40 or over
• and experience freezing of gait
Unfortunately, those diagnosed with any other neurological conditions, such as dementia, are unable to take part.
• Commuting to the University of Kent for 1 study visit which will last for 4 hours
• You will be asked to withdraw from taking your Parkinson’s medication for 12 hours overnight before your visit to the research site. Hear the experiences of others who have been off medication during a clinical trial and guidance on how to manage those assessments.
• At the study site, you will be asked to take part in walking, turning, sitting and standing tasks while being filmed
• You will then be able to take your medication and have a 1 hour break, before repeating the same tasks
• These sessions can be split across 2 study visits if preferred
• Travel expenses will be reimbursed
• Please read the participant information sheet for more information
