Tech Guide wins award for championing the patient voice

Tech Guide, our online platform to help people make informed decisions about technology, has been recognised at the Made with Patients awards.

The Made with Patients awards are granted annually by Patient Focused Medicines Development. They’re designed to celebrate individuals and organisations driving meaningful change through patient-led collaboration, advocacy, and innovation. We’re pleased to announce that, this year, our Tech Guide has been honoured with a Made with Patients award.

With more and more devices and apps available to people with Parkinson's, the Tech Guide aims to demystify the technology landscape, supporting people to make the right choices for them. The Tech Guide is built with the Parkinson's community at the core of every decision. This award celebrates how we’re helping redefine what good patient engagement looks like, and recognises what’s possible when we work with patients, not just for them.

The Tech Guide provides a broad catalogue of apps and devices that aim to improve the quality of life of people living with Parkinson’s. It shares community reviews of products, which are based on the actual experiences of people with Parkinson’s who have tried and tested the technology. From medical devices to smartphone apps, these reviews provide honest insights into how different technologies can help to manage the condition.

The Made with Patients award recognises and celebrates the outstanding people-centred approach taken to deliver the Tech Guide. The platform was shaped by the invaluable insights of a Community Steering Group. Together, the group led the direction of the project, helping to establish priorities and ensuring that the Tech Guide meets the needs of the people it is designed for.

John Pettigrew, Senior Product Manager of the Parkinson’s UK Tech Guide, said: "I’m so grateful for the many members of the Parkinson’s community who have given generously of their time, energy and experience. We wouldn’t be here without them and the Tech Guide would be significantly weaker.

"This includes the 16 people with Parkinson’s and family members who have served on our steering group, the 120 people with Parkinson’s who have helped us review the products in the Tech Guide, and the hundreds more people who have shared their needs, expectations and views at many stages during our development."

Paul Morris, Tech Guide Steering Group member and product reviewer, said: "I support the Tech Guide because it provides vital information to people with Parkinson's to allow us to make more informed choices about apps and devices that may help to manage our symptoms.

"I've enjoyed contributing as part of both the Steering Group and the Review Panel and have been pleased to see the Tech Guide team seeking the opinions of people with Parkinson's and putting the Parkinson's community at the heart of everything they do."

Tech Guide is free and available both online and offline. Explore the online catalogue of over 45 pieces of technology, with new reviews being added every month. You can also order a printed catalogue to your door. Order the Tech Guide through our shop.
