Top tips for organising your own walk

Dave Clark took on his own walking challenge:

''In 2016 I decided to walk from coast to coast, to show just what determination and positive thinking can achieve. I'd just turned 50, I have Parkinson's, walk with a limp, my right arm doesn't swing, and I have some wear and tear from my rugby days and arthritis in my toe.

"The great thing I’ve found about walking is that any amount can make you feel good. And you can do as much or as little as you want. Half a million steps is definitely not for everyone, but whatever your fitness I encourage anyone thinking of organising their own walk to go for it!''

Dave's 5 top tips for organising your own walk

1. Challenge yourself. I'm living proof that having Parkinson’s doesn’t mean you have to give up your goals or dreams, however big or small!

2. Give yourself plenty of time to plan the walk and choose a route and distance that suits your ability.

3. Get in touch with your Community Fundraiser at Parkinson’s UK. They can offer much needed support.

4. Set up an online fundraising page and tell people why you're walking for Parkinson’s, what you hope to achieve and how their donation will help.

5. Invite your friends and family to sponsor you. Find out how to get friends and family involved.
