Shan Nicholas joins the team as Interim Chief Executive

As Steve Ford prepares to step down, Shān brings extensive leadership experience from across the charity sector to Parkinson’s UK.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Shān Nicholas as Interim Chief Executive. She joined the organisation on 18 January 2021, taking over from Steve Ford, who will leave the charity at the end of January after 15 years in charge.

Shān brings a wealth of experience as an interim CEO in the voluntary sector. She has held the position at Independent Age, The Children’s Society and The Refugee Council, among others. She has also worked as a consultant and mentor for executives and directors through her company Lasting Transformation Ltd.

Commenting on her appointment, Shān said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Parkinson’s UK and have the opportunity to contribute to this critical area of work. The quality, innovation and impact of the charity is hugely impressive and I look forward to working with the talented team of staff and volunteers. It is a privilege to take over from Steve and lead Parkinson’s UK through this next period.”

Gary Shaughnessy, Chair of Parkinson’s UK, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Shān to Parkinson’s UK. The wealth and breadth of experience that she brings from across the charity sector is incredibly exciting for us. The combination of the passion, talent and expertise of our leadership team and Shan’s broad experience will, we believe, be really powerful.

“With Shān‘s input, and the knowledge and capability of the people at Parkinson’s UK and our volunteers, the board has every confidence that the team will continue to deliver to the Parkinson’s community and build on the momentum that we have.”
