It’s a wrap on a decade of the Excellence Network!

We take you through our achievements for this year and the past 10 years as an active and engaging network.

From funding and events to awards and courses, for the last 10 years we’ve shared learning, collaborated and innovated through our community of Parkinson’s experts and clinical leaders.

If you haven’t yet, you can watch our short film celebrating our first decade. We're celebrating, not stopping and we wouldn't be here without you.

Watch our 10th anniversary video to find out how we’ve been supporting health and care professionals to improve Parkinson’s care in the last decade.

Read on for a summary of what we’ve achieved across all our different programmes and how they’ve evolved through the years.

Innovation and practice

Our Grants scheme

Since formally launching the Excellence Network Grants Scheme in 2022, we’ve awarded 29 service improvement grants to services looking to enhance Parkinson’s care through innovation and service redesign projects.

This year alone, we’ve awarded 2 large grants and 5 small grants.

Our advanced clinical training fellowships

When the network started, we supported trainee registrars largely through our education offer. Since launching the Advanced Clinical Fellowship scheme 3 years ago, we’ve invested over £807K to develop the future leaders and influencers in Parkinson’s care by funding 10 trainee doctors in the fields of neurology, geriatric medicine, and psychiatry.

Encouraging more  Parkinson’s specialist nurses

We’ve increased our support to help more nurses to specialise in Parkinson’s. Our dedicated website has simplified the process for nurses to grow their careers and learn how to become a Parkinson’s nurse.

Improving access to care through pump priming

In the last decade, we've pump primed over 60 Parkinson’s specialist nurses and allied health professionals posts across the UK as part of our commitment to improve access to Parkinson’s care.

Taking action on Parkinson’s time critical medication

We launched the Parkinson’s Away-From-Home Kit to help people with Parkinson’s, and those who love and care for them, advocate for their Parkinson’s medications on time, every time.
We’ve also seen an increase in the number of hospitals taking action on time critical medication. Over 115 NHS Executives have pledged and 40% of pledged hospitals are taking action to improve care for people with Parkinson’s.

Making connections across the Network

In 2025, we got together with professionals at 35 different events and conferences across the UK. Whether it was online or in-person, there were numerous opportunities to network and learn with professionals in your region and within different specialist areas, with our Hub events.

Completing our leadership teams

This year, we continued to roll out our new regional clinical model for England with the appointment of 5 more new Regional Clinical Leads in the midlands, south east, London, east of England and the south west. We’ve also welcomed a new Clinical Lead for Therapy to our Clinical Leadership team.

Evidence and impact

UK Parkinson’s Audit

Back in 2015, 432 services submitted data into our Audit. This year we saw the largest number of submissions ever, with 698 services from across the UK taking part.

Helping professionals understand the new Parkinson’s prevalence data

We’ve hosted 2 webinars for professionals to help you understand the results of a new study on the prevalence and incidence of Parkinson’s in the UK. You can now watch the webinar recording, as well as read our key findings for professionals and FAQs.

Celebrating Parkinson’s nurses

We’ve continued to shine a light on the importance of the Parkinson’s nurse role. From letters to chief nursing officers and NHS chief executives, to deep-dive interviews raising awareness of how specialist nurses are vital for people with Parkinson’s.

Excellence Network Awards

We’ve had record numbers of entries and nominations for our Excellence Network Awards in 2025, with 94 coming in to recognise professionals for their efforts in Parkinson’s care.

We’re looking forward to hosting our 5th Awards Ceremony in the new year.
