Parkinson's time critical medication webinar, Scotland
Hear from health professionals about the tools and key steps they've taken to create systems that improve time critical medication outcomes for people with Parkinson's in their hospitals.
Parkinson's medications are time critical. People with Parkinson's are advised to take their medication within 30 minutes of the prescribed time. With a complex medication regime of multiple doses being required each day, when patients are in hospital, Parkinson's medication can often be administered late and even missed.
This can result in people's Parkinson's symptoms worsening, requiring extra care, a longer stay in hospital and possibly ongoing rehabilitation. In severe cases, this can result in considerable deterioration or even death. However, hospital teams can make improvements to avoid this.
Programme outline:
- Learning from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine's Time Critical Medication Quality Improvement Programme (QIP).
- Hear from nursing and pharmacy staff about the improvements made in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
- Hear about a Time Critical Medication QI project being run in NHS Grampian.
