How does apathy affect decision making in Parkinson’s?

Visiting the research site in Birmingham twice for up to 3 hours, which will involve: 

• Completing surveys and tasks on a computer during an electroencephalogram (EEG). An EEG involves wearing a cap to record brain activity. Read more about an EEG on the NHS website.

• For 1 of these sessions, you’ll be asked to take your morning Parkinson’s medication as usual (ON Session), while for the other you’ll be asked to delay taking it (OFF Session). 

• For the OFF session you’ll be able to take your morning dose as soon as the experiment finishes. To reduce the time you need to delay your medication, the research team offers early morning starts from 8am onwards.  If you would like additional support, especially when off medication, please bring a friend or family member. They can stay with you in the lab or in a coffee shop nearby. 

• If you would like to wait until you feel comfortable enough to travel home after taking your delayed dose, you can choose to either wait at the coffee shop, or with the research team in the lab. Watch a video about managing ‘off’ medication assessments on the EuroGCT website. 

You’ll be reimbursed for your time and travel expenses. There’s free onsite parking, and if you are visiting from the surrounding Birmingham area, the research team can arrange a taxi on the day you have to delay your medication.
