Neuropsychologists Olivia Plant and Annika Kienast published A Cognitive-Behavioral Model of Apathy in Parkinson’s Disease in the journal Parkinson’s Disease in 2024.

Apathy, a common yet often misunderstood symptom, affects up to 30% of people with Parkinson’s and can significantly impact motivation, daily functioning, and quality of life.

In this webinar aimed at mental health professionals they present a novel cognitive behavioural conceptualisation which considers individual therapeutic targets, as well as maintenance and intervention at a systemic level for problem apathy. Additionally, they explore CBT-informed strategies to break the cycles that maintain apathy to empower individuals to re-engage with meaningful activities.
