The Community Awards

The Community Awards celebrate the people making a difference in the Parkinson's community.

Across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, members of the Parkinson's community are making life with Parkinson's better. They're supporting others, spreading hope, and making change happen.

The Community Awards exist to recognise these incredible unsung heroes. There is no single 'winner'. Every nominee gets recognised for the difference they've made with a Community Awards certificate.

Nominate someone who's making a difference

You can nominate anyone in the Parkinson's community, from people living with Parkinson's and their families, to volunteers and health professionals, for any reason, big or small.

2024 nominations

More than 70 people were nominated for a Community Award in 2024. They were recognised for everything from running a local group to being there when people needed someone to talk to.

Here are some of the nominations we received:

Jan

"Jan ensures new members are made to feel very welcome. Each member receives a personal invitation to come to the next Parkinson's Cafe, held fortnightly. There is always lots of information about Parkinson's, what to expect, what support there is should you need it.

"Jan's persistence, together with her compassion, means that there's a strong sense of belonging, friendship and understanding throughout the branch."

Mark

"Mark has demonstrated amazing passion and energy for advocating for the Parkinson's community to be involved in research through sharing his experience and tips."

Gemma

"Gemma has been instrumental in developing our women's walking football community, Parkinson's pioneers. From the onset, she has been a positive force of nature, encouraging and cheering us on through all our sessions, coaching us in skills we didn't even know we had.

"I am so proud of her as a coach and a friend, and we wouldn't be the squad we are without her energy and positivity. I am truly honoured to have her on this journey with us."
