Campaigners and volunteers are vital to our work. Hear from some of them below on what it means to be involved.

Nicky and Richard’s story

"We are going away feeling we had a fun couple of days. Full days, hard work, and really stimulating.

"I feel we were heard. I was most impressed with the MPs that agreed to meet with us. We got our position over well, and I feel things will happen. I look forward to seeing what happens as a result."

Nic's story

"I wanted to increase the profile of the national ‘Get It On Time’ campaign to ensure people with Parkinson’s get their medication on time while in hospital. Combining this with World Parkinson’s Day seemed a brilliant link.

"I wrote to the chief executive at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, who linked me into his team. I also contacted the mayor of Sunderland and asked him to attend.

"The day was amazing, we set up a stall in the hospital dining area, which was visited by staff and visitors, which led to lots of wonderful conversations raising awareness.

"The neurologist who specialises in Parkinson’s led an education session for the mayor on the condition, along with her team of Parkinson’s nurses, physios, medical secretaries and research nurses. They truly brought to life the importance of working together.

"I was thrilled when the local paper published a story about the event, which helped raise awareness of Parkinson’s in Sunderland on World Parkinson’s Day.

"Parkinson’s UK provided support to bring this to life, including draft templates for press releases, materials for the stall and staff to help on the day.

"I wholeheartedly recommend becoming a campaign volunteer. You can make such a difference both locally and nationally. There are no set times to volunteer, so you can flex and balance this around your lifestyle and work too."
