This guideline published by the The Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) covers both planned and emergency hospital stays, supporting the entire care pathway from the first surgical discussion in primary care through to recovery, rehabilitation, and discharge back to the community.
It's the first of its kind nationally and internationally. By establishing minimum clinical standards alongside best-practice recommendations, this pathway helps improve patient safety, reduce complications, support timely discharge, and prevent medication harm.
The clinical guideline is available on the CPOC website.
