Fiona Lindop MBE steps down as Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network Clinical Lead for Therapy

Fiona Lindop MBE retires from her role at the Derby Parkinson’s Centre of Excellence and steps down from her role as Clinical Lead for Therapy for the Parkinson's UK Excellence Network.

Fiona joined our Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network’s Clinical Leadership Team in 2018 as our first Clinical Lead for Therapy. She has played an integral role working on a wide range of projects, from developing best practice multidisciplinary care teams to increasing awareness of what health and care services people with Parkinson’s should have access to.

An advocate for physical activity, Fiona has been a crucial part of the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network’s Exercise Hub from its inception, with a handful of members to the thriving network of more than 750 members today.

For over 30 years, Fiona has also worked as a Specialist Parkinson’s Physiotherapist at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derbyshire. During that time, she led the growth of the Parkinson’s service which developed into one of only 2 Centres of Excellence for Parkinson’s in the UK, a centre that has won many awards.

Nic Sherratt, Area Development Manager at Parkinson’s UK:

“Fiona's impact on the Parkinson's community in Derbyshire is truly immense. As a driving force behind the Parkinson's Centre for Excellence at Florence Nightingale Hospital, her dedication as a Specialist Physiotherapist has not only shaped exceptional local services but has profoundly improved the daily lives of countless individuals living with Parkinson's. Her tireless work and vision have fostered a supportive and empowering environment that has been, and remains, deeply valued by everyone she has touched."

Fiona received an MBE for her services to physiotherapy and her impact on the Parkinson’s community in December 2023.

Professor Richard Walker, Joint Clinical Director of the Excellence Network said:

“I first got to know Fiona well when she and I were on the Parkinson’s NICE guidelines update committee from 2014 to 2017, with Fiona being the physiotherapy representative. I have been delighted to work with her since on the Excellence Network Clinical Leadership Team.

Based on her extensive clinical and networking experience, she has made major contributions to the various initiatives she has been involved with, is always enthusiastic, and never loses her sense of humour. She will be missed hugely.”

We echo Richard's words and thank Fiona for all she's done. The Excellence Network wouldn't be what it is today without her input.
