Shining a light on World Parkinson’s Day 2026

We’re still feeling the energy from World Parkinson’s Day 2026! From information stands at hospitals sparking vital conversations among colleagues, to trusts' buildings lighting up in blue, we were proud to see everyone come together and raise awareness for the condition.

It’s been incredible to see our new Excellence Network LinkedIn page feed flooded with #WorldParkinsonsDay tags, good news stories and messages of hope and resilience, embodying the strength and commitment of our Parkinson’s community. Here's just a snippet of what some of you had been up to with links to LinkedIn posts.

Active Cornwall hosted their twice yearly "Connect & Conquer" event with Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and shared lots of helpful Parkinson’s UK materials with guests.

Nicola Asher posted about South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust hosting an event in support of World Parkinson's Day. They were also joined by Parkinson’s UK colleagues to raise awareness of the Get It On Time campaign.

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust shared a patient’s story of taking part in research after diagnosis; and at Beautiful Voice, they are playing their part in helping to bridge gaps in access and delivery of speech therapy for those with Parkinson's.

In addition to all the activities taking place, some used the timing of World Parkinson’s Day as an opportunity to raise awareness around the incredible work and achievements in their areas such as Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. They were celebrating the achievement of Angela Fong, Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist, and her team - including breathwork specialist Tracey Howes - who won both the Innovation in Practice Award and the overall Excellence Award at our recent awards event. This outstanding achievement recognises the impact of their innovative functional breathwork approach and their dedication to improving care for people living with Parkinson’s.

Also celebrating their Excellence Network Awards win in the Mali Jenkins category, was Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. They wrote:
"What started as a 10-week course for people newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s, has grown into a thriving community of people, families, volunteers and health professionals."

And lastly, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust spotlighted the pioneering work taking place at King’s to help people living with Parkinson’s.

Dr Mubasher A Qamar, Movement Disorder and Neurology Clinical and Research Fellow, explained:
"We are proud to be leading cutting-edge clinical research. One of our clinical trials is investigating whether a vaccine style treatment could slow the progression of Parkinson’s.

"This World Parkinson’s Day, our mission remains clear: to transform Parkinson’s care through research, innovation, and collaboration."

We couldn’t have summed it up better ourselves.

Thank you to everyone for your support, continued dedication and passion, not only on World Parkinson’s Day but for every day you care for people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
