Jane Rideout steps away from involvement lead role

Jane Rideout, our Clinical Lead for Involvement and all-round powerhouse, is stepping away from her Excellence Network Clinical Leadership role at the end of July.

From the very beginnings of our Excellence Network in 2015, Jane has drawn on her valuable lived experience of Parkinson's, and successful career in IT, to help shape and improve it.

Jane got involved with us as a volunteer back in 2013, with roles including peer support, hosting our First Steps programme and coordinating a local support group.

From there, her Excellence Network contribution and involvement grew and grew. Why not let Jane tell you herself how she got involved and just some of what it led to in this short audio clip from a session she delivered for World Parkinson's Day 2025, in the Excellence Network's tenth anniversary year.

Redefining 'patient-centred' practices

Our joint clinical directors summed up what Jane has brought to the Clinical Leadership Team:

"Jane has redefined what ‘patient-centred’ means for the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network. She has created a new normal, where the patient voice is embedded at the highest levels of strategic thinking and decision making. Many lives – professional, patient, family and community – have been and will continue to be impacted by this cultural change that Jane has facilitated and embodied. It is hard to imagine the Excellence Network operating any other way, and that is Jane’s greatest legacy."

Camille Carroll

"It has been such a pleasure working with Jane over the last few years at the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network. She has been a critical member of the team who really helps our understanding of what is important for people with Parkinson’s and their families. She has achieved amazing things where she lives in the south west but her impact has definitely been felt nationally especially with her particular area of interest of the importance of exercise for people with Parkinson’s. She has been a fantastic colleague, and friend, who will be very hard to replace and I will certainly miss her."

Richard Walker

We think you'll agree, that she's made a huge difference during her time with us. Although she's stepping back from Excellence Network Clinical Leadership Team commitments, Jane will remain involved with Parkinson's UK.
