How does Parkinson’s impact the way people speak?
A PhD student wants to understand how brain activity and tongue movements are impacted by Parkinson’s when talking. This will help researchers better understand why speech is affected in Parkinson’s.
• 20 people with Parkinson’s
• 20 people without Parkinson’s who are aged 40 to 85
Taking part in 2 visits to the University of Reading.
You'll be asked to stop taking your Parkinson’s medication for these visits. Hear the experiences of others who have been off medication during a clinical trial on the EuroGCT website.
The 1st visit will last for 1.5 hours and involve:
• Completing surveys
• And completing speech tasks while researchers use an ultrasound to capture images of tongue movement
The 2nd visit will last for 2.5 hours and involve:
• Performing a speech task while having an electroencephalogram (EEG). Read more about an EEG on the NHS website.
Travel costs will be reimbursed up to £10. You'll also be compensated for your time.
For more information, please read the participant information sheet.
