MPs show their support for our Get It On Time campaign

We took our Get It On Time campaign to Westminster yesterday (16 October) and asked MPs to take action to improve hospital care for people with Parkinson's.

We took our Get It On Time campaign to Westminster yesterday (16 October) and asked MPs to take action to improve hospital care for people with Parkinson's.

Almost 500 of our supporters invited their MPs to a briefing with Parkinson's UK volunteers and staff. MPs heard the findings from our latest report 'Get It On Time: The case for improving medication management for people with Parkinson's in hospital'.

  • Nearly two thirds of people who have Parkinson's don't always get their medication on time in hospital.
  • More than three quarters of people with Parkinson's that we asked reported that their health deteriorated s a result of poor medication management in hospital.
  • Only 21% of respondents told us they got their medication on time without having to remind hospital staff.

Volunteers Ruth Brinkler-Long and Tina Noble who both have Parkinson's, and Marilyn Curran whose husband Terrence has Parkinson's, shared their experience of not getting medication on time in hospital.

They outlined the impact not getting medication on time had on their condition and what local activities they've been doing to improve medication management for people with Parkinson's in hospital.

Ruth said: "It was great to dispel the myths about Parkinson's as some of the MPs believed it was a condition that only affected older people.

"It was nice to pass on our knowledge about living with the condition and the simple steps hospitals could take when someone with Parkinson's is admitted, that could make such a difference to people's lives."

Marilyn added: "I was pleasantly surprised with how supportive the MPs who came along were."
