Parkinson's UK announces new Komoot partnership
A new partnership between Parkinson’s UK and Komoot is aiming to help more people to live well in 2026.
What is Komoot?
Komoot is an online community for people who enjoy being active outdoors, or for those who want to be more active outdoors. Available either as an app, or as an online portal, Komoot offers members the opportunity to share popular walking, running and cycling routes across the UK and Europe, as collections for other members to access.
The new partnership entitles Parkinson’s UK to a limited number of free 12-month memberships for people with Parkinson’s to use. The aim of the app is for more people living with the condition to share and recommend routes, both in their local area and further afield.
Called Stepping into Parkinson’s and Nature, the new project aims to get more people with Parkinson’s, their relatives, carers and loved ones into the outdoors to experience the benefits of nature, by running, walking, hiking or cycling through different routes and sharing them as collections on the Komoot site.
No previous experience of being active is required and a limited number of free memberships and training will be available to the Parkinson’s community over the next 12 months.
Anyone interested in applying for one of the free memberships is encouraged to complete an expression of interest form for consideration by a panel from Parkinson’s UK and Komoot.
Anna Castiaux, Physical Activity Programme Lead at Parkinson’s UK, said:
“I’m delighted that the charity has been able to agree this new partnership with Komoot. Having the opportunity to offer a selected number of Komoot premium memberships for people with Parkinson’s is fantastic and I hope that more people will be able to enjoy the outdoors as a result.”
“Stepping into Parkinson’s and Nature is a great way for anyone with a connection to the condition to get active outdoors, regardless of age or experience and I hope that more people will be able to access this fantastic app in the future.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in walking, cycling, running or hiking in nature to try Komoot, and most importantly, to add their new routes to the Parkinson’s collections.”
Being active outdoors and in nature is shown to have some of the following benefits for people with Parkinson’s:
- Improved balance and coordination
- Better strength, flexibility and mobility
- Improved sense of wellbeing and mindfulness
- Greater social interaction
