Kristina Murrin CBE joins Parkinson’s UK as trustee and chair elect
We've appointed Kristina Murrin CBE as a trustee and chair elect, bringing an exceptional leader to the Board of Trustees at a pivotal moment for us.
Kristina, who joins the board this September, will take over from Gary Shaughnessy CBE as chair in October when his term ends.
Kristina has spent her career driving social change, including her recent role as chief executive at The King’s Foundation and as a senior advisor at Number 10
Gary Shaughnessy CBE, who has been a trustee of the charity for 8 years, and chair since October 2019, said:
"The board is delighted to have Kristina join Parkinson’s UK. This role is a very special one, not only in its importance to the charity, but to the Parkinson’s community. I’m sure that Kristina will take it on with confidence and her own style.
"She combines an impressive experience with her personal connection to Parkinson’s. I know she will continue to drive the charity’s work forward, with the needs of the community at the heart, always."
On her appointment, Kristina Murrin said:
"I am thrilled to be joining the team at Parkinson’s UK. They provide vital research, support and advice for the Parkinson’s community and having had a father who lived with the condition for 30 years, I know first-hand the outstanding work they do. I look forward to working with the team to deliver the mission of care, hope and ultimately a cure for Parkinson’s in years, not decades."
Caroline Rassell, our Chief Executive, added:
"Kristina shares our belief that Parkinson’s could be curable or preventable in a matter of years. We’re delighted to welcome her as our new Chair of Trustees, at a time where she has the opportunity to input into the development of our global vision for Parkinson’s, alongside our new 5-year strategy."
Peter Miller, Deputy Chair of the Board, reflected on Gary’s time:
"The Trustees are deeply grateful to Gary for the outstanding leadership he has provided over the past 7 years as Chair. His stewardship has helped shape the charity’s direction and strengthen its impact. We now look forward to working with Kristina as we build on that legacy and continue to serve the Parkinson’s community with even greater ambition and effect."
