When Mark Catterall, CEO and Owner of Smart Outdoor, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, he decided to do whatever he could to support the charity.
As a supplier of digital outdoor advertising, Mark knew that advertising had the power to reach, engage and inspire thousands, and he knew he could use this to support Parkinson’s UK.
For World Parkinson's Day in 2022 and 2023, Smart Outdoor donated digital billboards across the UK to spread awareness of the condition. The billboards showcased poems written by the Parkinson's community, helping to shine a light on what it's really like to live with the condition.
Mark encouraged other businesses to donate digital ad space too. The total ad space donated was worth an estimated £950,000. Mark has also set up an annual golf day which raises money for Parkinson's UK.
"Enterprise and entrepreneurship are what my business was built on, so for something that is as close to my heart as Parkinson’s, I would gladly help people understand what the condition is and its many symptoms. We have the ability to reach a large number of people, and through my growing business, I feel proud and privileged to help Parkinson’s UK with its mission and to widen its reach."
