Fund the Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech

Your donation will directly fund the Parkinson's Virtual Biotech, our global drug discovery and development programme.

Donate to the Virtual Biotech this festive season.

New treatments are not only possible, but within our reach. Help fund research to explore every angle.

£15 could go towards a pack of glass slides to help researchers look at brain cells under the microscope.

Find out more about the Parkinson's Virtual Biotech

People with Parkinson's need new treatments now, but drug development takes years.

Through the Virtual Biotech, we're bridging the gap and investing in projects with the greatest potential to transform life for people with Parkinson's. We invest in rapidly testing and developing them. Utilising labs and working with Biotech's and scientists across the world. Accelerating the search for new treatments.

A new drug is set to move to clinical trials

NRG5051 is a tablet designed to repair damage to the mitochondria - the "batteries" of brain cells. Our Parkinson's Virtual Biotech gave the founding investment in 2019, recognising the potential benefits for people with Parkinson's. Since then, researchers have successfully shown that the drug can enter the brain and help rescue mitochondria. Now, the company who developed NRG5051, NRG Therapeutics, has attracted significant investment to take the next crucial step into clinical trials.

A potential new drug targeting brain inflammation

In Parkinson's, studies have shown that there is more inflammation in the brain areas affected by the condition. Scientists believe this may play a role in damaging the dopamine-producing cells affected in Parkinson's, speeding up the rate they die. The potential new drug being developed by Neumora Therapeutics aims to protect these precious cells by stopping inflammation being triggered in the brain.
