Developing a physical therapy programme to improve turns and reduce falls

A researcher at Northumbria University wants to work with people with Parkinson’s and healthcare professionals to create a physiotherapy programme. The programme will aim to improve stability when turning and reduce falls, helping to improve mobility for people with Parkinson’s.

The researchers would like your help designing the programme.

Who

• 10 people with Parkinson’s who have experienced problems with turning or falls

• 10 healthcare professionals who work with people with Parkinson's

What

• People with Parkinson's will take part in 3 group workshops at Northumbria University

• Each workshop will be recorded and last for 2 hours, including comfort breaks.

• The workshops will involve discussing stability issues, physiotherapy, and developing a physical activity programme

• Healthcare professionals will take part in a 1 hour interview. This can take place online or in person.

• Healthcare professionals will also be invited to an optional 2 hour focus group with people with Parkinson’s to co design the physical activity programme

• Travel expenses will be reimbursed, and people with Parkinson's will be reimbursed £25 per hour they are involved.
