The Community Awards
The Community Awards celebrate the people making a difference in the Parkinson's community.
Across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, members of the Parkinson's community are making life with Parkinson's better. They're supporting others, spreading hope, and making change happen.
The Community Awards exist to recognise these incredible unsung heroes. There is no single 'winner'. Every nominee gets recognised for the difference they've made with a Community Awards certificate.
2025 nominations
This year we received over 280 Community Award nominations, ranging from running a local group to being there when people needed someone to talk to.
We met with Brian and Nicky, who were both nominated for an award in 2024. They share their experience in a video interview, which you can watch above. You can also read about what being nominated meant to them:
Brian
Brian was nominated for his unique talent, writing poetry, as well as his warmth and kindness to others.
"Receiving an award was huge for me, to think I’ve done something important and helped someone is an amazing feeling. I really enjoy writing poetry about Parkinson’s and the many symptoms and experiences that come with it. I think words can describe every emotion I’m feeling, and I try to make sure they’re easy to read so that people can find a connection within them. I also like to inject a bit of humour into my writing. When I found out I’d been nominated, I thought, well I'm going to pursue this even more now. When people enjoy my poems and say nice things about them, it provides me with happiness, and I often forget my struggles - I wish I could bottle that feeling up, it’s the best medicine."
Nicky
Nicky was nominated for going above and beyond in advocating for Parkinson’s research and being a friendly face to encourage others to explore taking part.
"I was genuinely shocked when I received a Community Award. I found that the more I got involved within research and the community, the more confident I became with my diagnosis. Being nominated encouraged me to keep moving forward. It was also a nice chance to reflect, and look back at how far I’ve come, and was definitely a pick me up when I found out. I now display my Community Award card on my desk at home, as a reminder of the kind words that were shared. If you think someone you know deserves recognition, I definitely recommend nominating them for an award as it highlights the positive impact they’re making!"
Nominations are now closed. Please look out for email updates from the Membership team in Spring 2026, when we'll open next year's awards.
