Grant funding helps more people with Parkinson's to get active

Parkinson's UK and Reach Your Peak are working together to help more people with Parkinson's take the first step on their physical activity journey.

We have awarded grant funding to a new online physical activity and wellbeing provider for people with Parkinson’s.

Reach Your Peak offers physical activity and wellbeing sessions for the Parkinson’s community and the funding will subsidise places on the Get Started online programme.

The online activities from Reach Your Peak will help more people living with the condition to manage their symptoms, try something new and improve their wellbeing.

Get Started with Reach Your Peak

Get Started is a 12-week course that uses workouts and expert coaching from trained physiotherapists.

Members will also have a chance to take part in a new exercise study to find out the best habits for being active with Parkinson's.

The study involves a short questionnaire about exercise habits and will be on a first come, first served basis with limited places available.

Reach Your Peak also offers online yoga, Pilates and dance sessions to help people work on their balance, coordination and strength.

Tim Morton, Physical Activity Programme Manager for Parkinson’s UK, said:

"We are delighted to be working with Reach Your Peak and we hope that the new grant funding will allow more people with Parkinson’s to try something new and stay active.

"Reach Your Peak offers an innovative programme of online physical activity courses for the Parkinson’s community. The grant funding represents a fantastic opportunity for more people to get involved and begin their physical activity journey.

"Being active is so important for people with Parkinson’s as it can help manage symptoms, maintain health and lift your mood. It can make you feel good inside and out. The more physically active you are, the easier it is to live well with Parkinson’s."

Maria Lewis, Co-founder of Reach Your Peak, said:

"We understand the importance of being active and how it can help you manage your Parkinson’s symptoms. At Reach Your Peak it’s more than just online workouts.

"We’ll build your confidence and find Parkinson’s specific workouts that will help you manage your symptoms over time."

"Within 12 weeks we want you to develop a habit that will last a lifetime."
