Symprove – Probiotic use for motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s; a novel study to address treatment potential.

The aim of the research is to investigate whether Symprove can have an impact on Parkinson’s symptoms, inflammation and gut microbiota.

Who

60 people diagnosed with Parkinson’s aged over 18 years who experience regular constipation.

If you have previously taken Symprove, regularly use probiotics or have a history of gastrointestinal problems or surgery you will unfortunately not be able to take part.

What

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, research visits can be conducted remotely if you would prefer.

If you are happy to, you will be invited to attend 2 visits at King’s College Hospital.

At the first visit you will give consent, complete a number of assessments and questionnaires, be introduced to the research tools and give a blood sample. You will be given either the Symprove product or a placebo to take for 3 months.

Your second visit to King’s will be the end of the research trial.
