DEEPLY DIPPY DUO - NOFWR NADOLIG

This Boxing Day - Penny Cunliffe of the Llandudno Support Group along with her son Liam took part in the town’s annual Boxing Day Dip.

Y Diwrnod Bocsio hwn - cymerodd Penny Cunliffe o Grŵp Llandudno ynghyd â'i mab, Liam, ran yn y Dip Diwrnod Bocsio blynyddol y dref.

Although it was a lovely sunny day, it was still very cold with the water temperature being less than 5 degrees! Penny said, "I had been preparing for this with cold showers through December, but the anticipation was worse than the fact. I would consider doing it again if someone wanted a friend there for moral support."

The event attracts between 2000 and 3000 spectators and approximately 200 swimmers. It was the first time that they had both taken part but, fantastically, Liam won the first male in the water prize. He also won second place for his fancy dress costume. He was dressed as a T-Rex and stood about 3-feet above everyone else!

Penny and Liam had been planning their dip for a while but were pleased to have a last-minute Christmas Eve addition to their numbers with Anne Marie who runs monthly singing sessions at the group. Penny and Anne Marie have already started thinking about fancy dress costumes for next year!

Their bravery has so far raised almost £1000 and they are currently waiting to hear about the potential of further match funding from Liam’s company.

The money raised will be shared between the local Llandudno group and the Trafford Branch, where Penny used to volunteer until she moved to North Wales. Penny said, "Parkinson's UK is a fantastic charity and we want to raise funds so that the Llandudno Support Group and the Trafford Branch can both continue to raise awareness and reach more people in their areas to give their members ongoing support."

Er ei bod yn ddiwrnod heulog hyfryd, roedd yn dal yn oer iawn gyda'r tymheredd y dŵr yn llai na 5! Meddai Penny, "Roeddwn wedi bod yn paratoi ar gyfer hyn gyda chawodydd oer ym mis Rhagfyr, ond roedd y rhagweld yn waeth na'r ffaith. Byddwn yn ystyried ei wneud eto os oedd rhywun eisiau ffrind yno am gefnogaeth foesol."

Mae'r digwyddiad yn denu rhwng 2000 a 3000 o wylwyr a thua 200 o nofwyr. Dyma'r tro cyntaf iddyn nhw gymryd rhan, ond enillodd Liam y gwobr am y gwryw cyntaf yn y dŵr. Enillodd hefyd yr ail le ar gyfer ei wisg ffansi. Fe'i gwisgo fel T-Rex ac yn sefyll tua 3 troedfedd uwchben pawb arall!

Roedd Penny a Liam wedi bod yn cynllunio eu dip am ychydig, ond roeddent yn falch o gael ychwanegiad i'w niferoedd ar noswyl Nadolig, gydag Anne Marie sy'n rhedeg sesiynau canu yn y grŵp. Mae Penny ac Anne Marie eisoes wedi dechrau meddwl am wisgoedd gwisg ffansi ar gyfer y flwyddyn nesaf!

Hyd yma, mae eu dewrder wedi codi bron i £1000 ac maent ar hyn o bryd yn aros i glywed am botensial arian cyfatebol pellach gan gwmni Liam.

Bydd yr arian a godir yn cael ei rannu rhwng y grŵp lleol Llandudno a Changen Trafford, lle roedd Penny yn arfer gwirfoddoli nes iddi symud i Ogledd Cymru. Meddai Penny, "Mae Parkinson's UK yn elusen wych ac rydym am godi arian er mwyn y gall Grŵp Cefnogi Llandudno a Changen Trafford barhau i godi ymwybyddiaeth a chyrraedd mwy o bobl yn eu hardaloedd i roi cefnogaeth barhaus i'w haelodau."
