Choose from an 18 or 32.5 mile walk or run along the stunning forests, moorlands and hills of the Great Glen Way, with incredible views of Loch Ness and help raise money to bring life-changing breakthroughs closer.

Taking Part

Participants must be aged 16 or above

U18s cannot take part unaccompanied, and must walk or run with an adult

Pets/pushchairs are not allowed on any courses

Parkinson’s UK manages your booking, administration and sponsorship money.

Course routes, safety and logistics are planned and managed in collaboration with True Grit Events who draw on many years of experience planning and delivering a variety of outdoor events.

The Great Glen Challenge is designed to be a challenge for walkers and runners, but achievable in the 12-hour time limit. A training plan is provided when you sign up, but we recommend that you seek advice from your GP before embarking on a new exercise programme.

Signing up

You will be unable to sign up on the day. Registration will close at 23:59 on Monday 4 May 2020. We will be unable to process registrations after this date.

Start

The Great Glen Challenge will start at approximately 7am, with participants leaving in waves. Start times are subject to change and final timings will be confirmed in your pre-event Info Guide.  

Facilities

Upon completing the challenge, there will be changing facilities available at the Gold Finish Line as well as hot food for all participants.

Shuttle buses will be available to transport participants to the start from Invermoriston, and from the Silver finish lines to Inverness.

Refreshments

There will be regular rest stops along the course with food and drink for participants, including a lunch stop at Drumnadrochit.
Hot food and drinks will be available for all participants at the Gold finish in Invermoriston.

Professional medical cover is provided at the Start and Finish areas and on the course. Please give way to any emergency vehicles that require access to the course.

Do not take part if you feel unwell before the event. The organisers reserve the right to prevent participation on the day on medical grounds. If you feel unwell during the Great Glen Challenge, let the nearest marshal know and they will call for medical assistance.

We provide you with sponsorship forms and regular email newsletters containing lots of useful fundraising and training tips. We can also provide fundraising materials such as collection tins, banners and posters on request.

Your event pack containing all on the day information and breathable Parkinson's UK T-shirt will be sent out two weeks before the challenge.
