Improve life for those affected by Parkinson's
We believe that no one should face Parkinson's alone.
Yet there remains a lack of awareness of where people affected by the condition can turn to after diagnosis and beyond.
Become a Turn to Us Awareness Volunteer and help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by Parkinson's in your local area.
You will help raise awareness of the condition and ensure our information and support materials are available everywhere, for everyone around the UK.
By distributing our materials to your local GP surgery, hospital or care home, you join our mission to bring forward the day when no one fears Parkinson's.
What our volunteers say
Barbara Lee's husband has Parkinson's and dementia with Lewy bodies. She is his full-time carer and was one of our first Turn to Us volunteers:
"To me, and many people in the same position, it is so important to get information early to help understand Parkinson's and the associated problems that come with it."
I can't wait to be out there again delivering more packs.
Chris Knight signed up after his father had passed away having had Parkinson's for 12 years:
"My dad was a very active member of his local Parkinson’s UK branch. I wanted to try to carry on some of the work dad had done, so I decided to volunteer. The thought that somebody who is desperate for help coping with Parkinson's could pick up a leaflet and realise there is help out there is fantastic."
Becoming a Turn to Us volunteer
It's easy to become a volunteer:
- Read the full role description for more information (Turn to Us awareness volunteer role description, 590PDF KB).
- Complete the short application form (Turn to us volunteer application form, PDF, 498KB).
- We will be in touch with the information you need to get started and send you our resource packs for free.
- We also welcome local groups and healthcare professionals keen to raise awareness, linking up all local efforts where possible. Please contact us using the details below.
Please note, volunteers must be aged 18 or over.
You will be given a staff contact to speak with should you have any questions about distributing locally and beyond.
Once you receive the packs, take these to any local health care settings convenient to you before December 2016, remembering to make a note of where you have been in the distribution record form.
It’s really important that you let us know where you've placed materials so we can keep track of the areas of the UK we're reaching and the one's we're not.
Download the Volunteer Distribution Record Form (Word, 239KB) or use the one you will receive in your pack.
Return your completed form by post or email as per the details provided in your pack.
We have been recruiting Turn to Us volunteers since January 2012 and through the campaign have reached an estimated further 60,000 people affected by Parkinson's. But we need your help to reach people who don't yet know about us or our services.
