Sophie's pub party
Sophie decided to hold a barbecue Party for Parkinson's at her local
pub.
My granddad was diagnosed with Parkinson's 12 years ago and I wanted to do
something to help raise awareness.
I organised a barbecue party at my local pub, The Hilbre in
West Kirby, my home town. I chose a Saturday in August near my
granddad's 76th birthday.
Starting in the afternoon and finishing at midnight allowed
families to come along in the day and friends to stay until
late.
In the end over 200 people came along and raised over
£1,000!
It was great to be able to give something back to a charity that is very close to my heart.
I held a raffle and asked local businesses to donate prizes.
They were so generous! I received a £50 voucher from a local hair
salon, another company donated a camera worth £100 and a Wii
console and I also managed to get a signed pair of Everton football
boots.
Bands played during the evening, including my own band.
Local artists were really generous in giving up their time.
The best thing was seeing it all come together and seeing people
with Parkinson's and their families there - including my
granddad and nan, who is his carer.
It was
great to be able to give something back to a charity that is very
close to my heart.
To anyone thinking of having a Party for Parkinson's, I would
say that it’s great fun and you feel a real sense of
achievement.
