Deirdre's Diamond Jubilee Party

Deirdre Pineo decided to host a Royal Jubilee Party for Parkinson's in South Africa!

Diamond Jubilee Party for Parkinson's host Deirdre and mother Barbara Pineo

My mother Barbara has Parkinson's, and I've moved from London to South Africa in order to care for her.

Despite being overseas I wanted her to have a taste of the Diamond Jubilee.

I thought having a party would also be a great opportunity to raise funds for research.

We decorated our home with red, white and blue balloons, bunting and flags.

We also put on a great British spread for our guests. With cucumber sandwiches, sausage rolls, cupcakes and plenty of other delicious goodies to go around.

party jubilee cakesWe held a raffle with some great British prizes on offer which you wouldn't find in South Africa. Including tea towels from Buckingham Palace and Diamond Jubilee shopping bags.

After the raffle I gave a speech to thank everyone for coming and supporting Parkinson's. I then hosted a Diamond Jubilee quiz, which was won by a neighbour whose husband has Parkinson's.

The party was greatly enjoyed by all of our friends, who really got into the British spirit. We raised £100 towards research.

If you've been inspired to hold your own party, why not request a pack and start planning!
