Deirdre's Diamond Jubilee Party
Deirdre Pineo decided to host a Royal Jubilee Party for Parkinson's in South
Africa!
My mother Barbara has Parkinson's,
and I've moved from London to South Africa in order to care for
her.
Despite being overseas I wanted her to have a taste of the
Diamond Jubilee.
I thought having a party would also be a great opportunity to
raise funds for research.
We decorated our home with red, white and blue balloons, bunting
and flags.
We also put on a great British spread for our guests. With
cucumber sandwiches, sausage rolls, cupcakes and plenty of other
delicious goodies to go around.
We held a raffle with some great British prizes on offer
which you wouldn't find in South Africa. Including tea towels from
Buckingham Palace and Diamond Jubilee shopping bags.
After the raffle I gave a speech to thank everyone for coming
and supporting Parkinson's. I then hosted a Diamond Jubilee quiz,
which was won by a neighbour whose husband has Parkinson's.
The party was greatly enjoyed by all of our friends, who really
got into the British spirit. We raised £100 towards research.
If you've been inspired to hold your own party, why not
request a pack and start
planning!
