How to leave a gift in your Will
If you would like to leave a gift
in your Will to Parkinson's UK, you can follow the advice below
to help you make or update your Will.
5 easy steps to making your Will
1. Make a list of your assets
Before you visit your solicitor, save time and money by drawing
up a list of everything you own, as well as any debts you may
leave.
Use our 'My Assets' form (PDF, 426KB) to help make
this as easy as possible.
2. Think about who gets what
Write a list of the people and organisations (such as
Parkinson's UK) you'd like to benefit.
Think about how you'd like to divide your estate and the
types of gift you'd like to leave.
You can write down your personal details and wishes on a
'My Wishes' form (PDF, 467KB) to help make
things easier for your next of kin.
3. Choose your executors
It's a good idea to name at least two people as executors.
Before doing so, check they are happy for you to do this. You can
name a bank or solicitor as an executor if you wish.
If you do not have a suitable executor, Parkinson's UK can act
for you. For more information please call our Legacy Administration
Manager on 020 7932 1301.
4. Arrange to see a solicitor
It's important to ask a legal professional to draw up your Will
to ensure your wishes are properly carried out.
If you don't know any solicitors, ask your friends and family to
recommend one. Alternatively you can use the Law Society's
Find a solicitor service at www.lawsociety.org.uk/findasolicitor (search
under 'Wills and probate') or call them on 0870 606 2555.
5. Keep your Will in a safe place
Keep a copy of your Will, along with any codicils and details of
your assets, in a safe place. Make sure your executors know where
to find it.
Updating your Will
It's easy to update an existing Will. If you're making minor
changes you can simply update it by making a codicil. If you're
making a number of changes, it's often better to make a new
Will.
Your solicitor will be able to advise you further, but for more
information contact one of the following, depending on where in the
UK you are based.
