I was nervous about the
marathon, would I ever be able to do it? I started in zone 9
right at the back – but once we set off there was no way I was
pulling out!
The crowds were
amazing, cheering people on all the way.
I was so distracted by the
spectators and the other runners – all with inspirational stories –
that I forgot about the pain. Sure enough a few hours later I
passed the 22 mile mark and realised I could make the last 4 miles
– that was just one of those quick warm up runs I did.
When I saw the finish I had
to hold back the tears, and I saw another PDS runner, I never got
her name, but we held hands, smiled for the photos and ran quickly
through the finish line – thank you for that moment!
So why did I do
it?
My mum and a friend’s mum
were both diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006. Unfortunately
my friend’s mum died earlier this year, but my mum is still
managing to get through the challenges. Our local branch is
fantastic providing us with information and support.
I raised nearly £2,000 for
the PDS, and I want to thank everyone that sponsored me!
So the big question is would
I do it again? There’s a big chance I might!
