Spotlight on Lewy bodies in new issue of Progress magazine

The Autumn 2009 issue of Progress, our
research magazine, is now available to download.
Under the
spotlight in this issue are Lewy bodies, including what they are,
where they are found and the role they play in Parkinson's.
A print copy of Progress will be available and posted to
subscribers in the next couple of weeks.
Latest research projects
We reveal £5million funding for the new Monument Discovery Award, to carry out
groundbreaking new research aimed at accelerating progress into
finding a cure for Parkinson's.
6 new project grants, totalling over £1million, are
highlighted. These projects mainly focus on understanding the
causes of the condition and include:
- a zebrafish model of early onset Parkinson's
- the role DJ-1 gene plays in Parkinson's
- the role of inflammation in the development of Parkinson's
- why dopamine-producing nerve cells are vulnerable in
Parkinson's
Other articles
Other articles focus on:
- helping people live with Parkinson's disease dementia
- results of a study that focused on helping people feel more
positive
- whether stem cells are a potential cure for Parkinson's
- whether Parkinson's is inherited
