PhD studentships

ResearcherWe offer fully funded PhD studentships for outstanding students.

The next deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 27 August 2010.

There is one round of studentships per year.

Costs and duration

Our PhD studentship scheme will provide funding over a 3-year period to students based at a UK higher education institution.

Students receive:

  • a stipend of £15,000 per year (or £16,000 per year if in London)
  • full PhD tuition fees (at the UK/EU rate)
  • a contribution of up to £10,000 per year towards research costs

Students from outside of the EU are welcome to apply for this scheme on a full fee paying basis.

Eligibility

  • The PhD studentship scheme is not intended to cover funding gaps for PhD students whose studies have already started.
  • Both home and overseas students with a first degree in a relevant discipline are eligible for this scheme. Supervisors should contact their university's research office regarding fees for overseas students.
  • To allow recruitment of the most able students early in their final year, the final decision on the studentships will be made in December for appointment in summer/autumn of the following year.

Application procedure

Applications must be made by the potential candidate's supervisor who must be based at a UK university, hospital or research institute.

Applications for all research grants must be made via our online application system.

Supervisors are responsible for the subsequent recruitment of a graduate with a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant discipline.
