Training fellowships

Researchers Dr Tilo Kunath and Dr Mike Davine at Edinburgh UniversityOur training fellowship scheme is for qualified health and social care professionals who would like to train in research relevant to Parkinson's.

Applications are invited annually.

The next deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 3 December 2012.

Costs and duration

Training fellowships are offered for up to £250,000.

Awards for applicants with some prior research experience are limited to 3 years.

Up to 4 years of funding will be considered for applicants with no research experience. This gives applicants the opportunity to gain expertise in research methods by studying for an MSc or MRes in the first year. The following 3 years would be used for a doctoral degree.

Funding can cover:

  • salary costs
  • a contribution towards research expenses
  • training opportunities such as attendance at relevant conferences or short courses

Awards are available on a full-time or part-time basis.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should be aiming to obtain a PhD, MPhil or MD.
  • Awards must be based in, or linked to, designated host research units, centres, institutes or departments with a good track record in training and research relevant to Parkinson's.
  • Supervisors should hold employment contracts that extend beyond the period of the grant.
  • Grants are tenable only at a UK university, research institution, NHS trust or statutory social care organisation.
