I have read somewhere that people with Parkinsons taking certain kinds of medication have to avoid high protein food. Can anyone advise me on this please?
Going to see nuerologist next week about hubby's tremors and starting meds and would like to have some knowledge about this. Thanks for your help. :)

Protein can compete with levadopa for transportation across the blood-brain-barrier.
Dopamine Agonists (DAs) and MAOb inhibitors are not affected. He is most likely to start of on DAs or MAObs and so would not be affected.

levadopa - madopar, sinemet, stavelo
DAs - Requip (Ropinirole) and Mirapex (Pramipexole)
MOAb - azilect (rasagiline)

I avoid proteins an hour before taking madopar and for a while after. Milk seems to be the worst. Some people are ok with tuna or hard cheese. Seems to vary a lot.

cheers
