Someone told me yesterday that East Midlands News on BBC spoke of a new drug being tested for Parkinson's in the East Midland area.
Has anyone else heard about this?

I don't think so, my friends were talking about a new tablet thats being trialled. The consultant I see at Derby, Dr Bajaj was being interviewed, I just wish I'd heard it.
Can't find anything online!

Hi kes,
The trial that Turnip mentioned has been in the news quite a bit this week.

Are you sure that it wasn't the ProSavin trial? There is more information here: http://bit.ly/I5E3Ww including a link to an interview with our director of research.

If that's still not it, do let us know and we'll see if there is someone in the research team who may have better information.

Cheers,
Ezinda

Mysterious indeed!
I wonder if it could have been IPXO66, a new-fangled prolonged release levadopa formulation which I posted about last year.
Lots in the news but not mentioned since although in final stages of trials.

Keen to know what happened to it!

Hi. I heard the same Dr from Derby being interviewed on Radio Nottingham between 8.30 and 9am yesterday but he was talking about recruiting pwp to take part in the forthcoming gene research trials.

Found it on www.derbyhospitals.nhs.uk Here's a snippet:-

Dr Donald Grosset, who is leading the ‘Tracking Parkinson’s’ study, said: “The cure for Parkinson’s is a global challenge and all the samples gathered from our thousands of volunteers will be available for analysis by researchers the world over. This, in itself, will speed up our ultimate goal – to develop a cure for Parkinson’s. I am very excited to be leading this cutting edge research collaborating with top researchers from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

To qualify as a volunteer for ‘Tracking Parkinson’s’ at one of the UK centres, people need to have been diagnosed under the age of 50 or have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s within the last three years (from the date they register for the study). Brothers or sisters of either set of participants are also invited to take part.

To find out more about how to take part in Tracking Parkinson’s call our freephone helpline 0808 800 0303, or visit http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/tracking for full details and links to other Parkinson’s UK funded research.
