Although, as I've explained, my serious DA side effects didn't start for quite a long time into the medication, those close to me tell me that my moods changed AS SOON AS I STARTED the drug. Apparently I became grumpy, aggressive and selfish.

Not at all like the sweet, cuddly thing I am now!

Hi to all,
need some advice, has a few are aware im on mirapexin prolonged release and did my research on da,s but now ive may have a probelm which may be compulsive behaviour and this is not in my nature i must stress.very embarrassing to talk aboutredfacebut dreams and images so hyper-sexual ,the darker side to this without going in to great detail on the forum which is not the correct place for this sort of thing (hope you understand my interpretation and no offence intended) this is not good.
i have contacted the pd nurse and she has told me to come of the mirapexin straight away ,just because this drug does this ,another may not or im i being naive?
one good point of this drug i may say was that it did improve my walking and symptom control and be more effective in everyday life, but i certainly dont what the other !! my question to anybody is that are there other drugs out there that can help, with coming of the mirapexin now i will suffer a little more with the pd.
have i done the right thing in saying and speaking to my pd nurse about this matter? was only on the smallest dosage anyway.
any feedback welcome !!exclaim

That should be the model under which this drug is prescribed.

By the very nature of the side effect, the sufferer is the last person to entrust with the job of telling the consultant, because they are lying to themselves that life is just dandy, its everyone else who has the problem.

I'm sorry that tab didnt work out for your husband, but there are alternatives. You will get the one that works.

I went to a lawyer, was advised it would cost £100k. To take to court and even if I won I may not get expenses.

I'm going to seek a second opinion.

Hi, I have read and re-read the posts and one thing is clear. The side effects of the medication used, in most cases, is the main contributory factor to changes in personality and rational behaviour. We are all guinea pigs in one way or another when it comes to the medical profession. Our challenge though is with the pharmaceutical companies. I know little or understand the implications of a class action against these companies but they do exist. There is a successful action in Canada and one recently launched in Australia.

Sufferers in New Zealand are also launching a similar campaign. I wonder if there are any legal eagles on this forum that might throw some light on these matters and start a new thread for a similar action here in the UK?

I have no idea of the benefits of such an action other than it will raise awareness so maybe some good can come out of it.

Apparently Jill Paterson at Leigh Day is has raised or is raising a class action. I tried to contact her, however I was told I was Scottish and I was probably time barred. Someone would phone me back. Never did.

You can also sue the NHS or the consultant for negligence, as they prescribed you a very dangerous drug, then failed to properly monitor its effect on you.

Don't worry about the consultant. He/she will have professional insurance against legal claims.

When I was charged with criminal activities carried out whilst under the influence of DAs, I was eligible for legal aid. This allowed my solicitor to take on a top barrister, and one of the UK's top neurology professors, who had testified successfully in similar DA criminal cases.

Thanks to their skills and expertise the judge let me off, and although I am still penniless and (technically) heavily in debt, I have a judicial ruling in my favour declaring that I cannot be held responsible for any debts incurred during - or as a result of - the period 2000-2007.

Since criminal law overrides civil law, most of the debt-chasers now leave me alone.
