Actually, Mark, it's not a stupid question at all; it's a very sensible one.
(Brace yourself for the insulting replies though.)

I noticed an increase in my sex drive almost straight away but as I didn't have much of one before (being menopausal) it hasn't been a problem so far. I have reported this to the PD nurse and she has informed the GP and neurologist (rather embarrassing).
I also get slightly swollen ankles.

i am on 24mg of ropinerole.
the swollen ankles was cured by water tablets(also treats high blood pressure).
the increased libido on the other hand ...
well, actually, its not been so much of a problem as fun (the wife might not agree!), but i could easily see it slipping over into dangerous territory. so i wont be increasing my dose from now on but will be insisting on moving to l-dopa when i next see my neuro (can you insist with a neuro????).

Hi Big M,
Very relevent question. The most important thing is that you are obviously fully aware and on the look out for any changes or side effects. As to the answer,i think that will vary, but a rapid increase or a large dosage must increase the risk.
All the best

Lots of men, upon finding their libido increasing, think "hey, this is fun!". However wives who have become used to a certain level of frequency may not welcome a permanent shift to a higher rate, especially if there's the possibility of a further upward increase in the future.
Some wives complain that their husbands become more sexually "animalistic", and lose their gentle, loving, caring and romantic sides.
There have also been many mirror-image cases with lady PD patients finding themselves with increased libidos, and husbands not being too happy about it.
In both cases the "innocent" partner can be afraid that if they don't comply with the new requirement, their partner may look elsewhere. Often he/she does anyway.

I was on cabergoline, which I believe has now been withdrawn.
Initially 0.5 mg per day.
After about 6 months they upped me to 4 mg per day.
This caused hallucinations so they dropped it to 3.5 mg.
Finally they made me spread it out to 2 mg in the morning and 1.5 mg at 8 pm (still 3.5 mg in total).
They were just guessing, they didn't have a clue really.
The side effects didn't start for over a year, though, so there was a long gap between cause and effect.
Over a couple of years I first became hypersexual and deviant, then this was joined by hyper-spending & delusions of grandeur, then along came the compulsive gambling as well. Finally violence, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, punding and crime.
Oh happy days!
Ray.

Well, hello!I thought it was you. You must be running out of nicknames by now.
It actually wasn't your prolific posts on this thread that gave you away,
it was the crocodile sandwich at the cafe.
Welcome back. At least you liven up the debates and brighten up the social
scene.
